Narottam Das Thakur was the only disciple of Lokanath Goswami. He was the son of a great king and he left everything to come to Vrindavan. By the time he arrived in Vrindavan, Rupa and Sanatana Goswami had already disappeared from this mortal world.
He approached Lokanath Goswami for initiation but was refused. Narottam Das Thakur served him menially for a year cleaning his stool and urine. Finally one day Lokanath Goswami found this out and asked Narottam why he was doing such a menial task. Narottam Das Thakur replied, “I have renounced everything of this world and have achieved the highest privilege and wealth of rendering personal service to my Spiritual Master.” Lokanath Goswami’s heart melted and on the instruction of Lord Caitanya he
initiated Narottam Das Thakur.
A very heart touching pastime of Narottam Das Thakur..It makes us realize that to what degree we should be surrendering to our spiritual master….False ego and pride have to be wiped out and we should be ready to do any menial task to please our guru….
Even in the 13th chapter verses 8 to 12, Lord Sri Krishna instructs us that the 1st step to gain true knowledge is humility
Also this mood of Narottama Das Thakur can be captured in the Vaishnava Songs which are very deep, meaningful and compiled with such beauty. Thank you for providing deeper insight into what is real wealth of this human life.
Thanks for sharing heart touching pastime of Narottam Das Thakur. All glories to Radhanath swmai maharaj

As mentioned by Radhanath Swami Maharaj in the article, that Lokanath Goswami came to know about the service renderd by Narottam Das Thakur after 1 year is so exemplary to show the extent of service attitude free of seeking praise but just to serve.
Really a great example of Narottam das Thakur.
What pleases spiritual master is not the amount of services one rendered but its one’s attitude to serve unconditionally and with humility that pleases the spiritual master. As mentioned by Radhanath Swami Maharaj in the article that how Narrotam Das Thakur’s humility melted the heart of Loknath Goswami. Thank you Maharaj for this very instructive article.
A spiritual master is pleased by the pure devotional service of the devotee. Only then will he shower his mercy.
This article shows the extreme humility of Narottam Das Thakur. We should learn such qualities from previous acharyas, these are very much helpful for our spritual progress.

Amazing and A very high class example of Service Attitude by Narottam Das Thakur. Doing service is one thing but then performing service for someone in a hidden way, without taking any credit is something is not generally seen. Thank you very much for sharing this role model for every aspiring spiritualist.
Great story by Narottam Das Thakur. Pure devotees never consider any material condition to hamper their devotional service. Examples like Narottam Das Thakur and other pure devotees, are a great source of information for all of us to perform any type of devotional service for the pleasure of our spiritual master. Thank you very much Radhanath Swami for sharing this wonderful pastime of Srila Narottam Das Thakur and HH Lokanat Goswami.
