Radhanath Swami on Joy Of Servitude

Gopis Serving radharani

Ahankar or false ego puts us in a state where we want to be seen as important in the eyes of the world. In that state if some one is given more importance than us, we become envious and egoistically competitive. Or we become very discouraged and depressed because we don’t have that position. If we feel we are in a superior position, whether in our knowledge or our accomplishments or in any other way, we become very proud. But the basic principle of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s teachings is gopi bhartur pada kamalayor dasdasanudas.

Our happiness is in the opportunity to gratefully serve in the mood of the servant of the servant. Whether we are empowered to do great things in eyes of the world or whether we are just empowered to sweep the floor, Krishna sees the sincerity of our intent.

Through their writings the Goswamis have revealed the highest realms of Vraj Bhakti. We can’t understand what is in their books unless we imbibe or at least strive to imbibe the qualities which pleased Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and follow in the footsteps of the Gosvamis. The humility, non-envious disposition and eagerness of the Goswamis to serve was so attractive to Lord Caitanya that He revealed the highest treasures of bhakti through them and taught us how we can understand and realize it.

  3. This is truely the best and safest position of all to be the servant of the servant . Uddhav direct associate of Lord left Dwarka to become a twig in Vrindavan because he understood that the mood of the gopis that service attitude is far better than direct association of the Lord Himself. Thank u for sharing this article.
